How to use the image compressor
- Choose the photo you want to compress.
- Select a maximum file size and the correct size unit. KB means 1024 bytes here; kB means 1000 bytes.
- For JPG, set the quality ceiling. Keep dimension shrinking off if your upload requires exact pixels.
- Create the preview and review both clarity and measured size. Download only after checking whether the result meets your limit.
Compress an image to a maximum size in KB
To try a 100 KB limit, enter 100 and choose KB. The encoder reduces JPG quality up to the selected ceiling to try to stay within that maximum. Image complexity, format and pixel dimensions affect the final size. PNG uses lossless encoding and may remain larger. The output can be smaller than the limit; the tool does not add artificial padding.
Can every image be compressed without quality loss?
No. Reducing JPG quality can remove detail, and reducing dimensions removes pixels. PNG compression preserves pixels but cannot meet every requested limit. The preview shows the same encoded file offered for download, including a clear warning when it exceeds the limit.
Your image and your privacy
Image editing runs in your browser. Usage counters send small event requests to this website without image content. Optional AI background removal downloads model assets from IMG.LY, which receives ordinary network metadata. The image itself is not uploaded by this editor.
Use a modern browser. Input is limited to 20 MB, 16 million pixels and 8000 pixels on either side. On phones, mobile-friendly editing reduces large inputs to at most 1600 pixels on the longest side and two million pixels. Check the result against the destination’s own rules; no tool can guarantee an application will accept it.
