For direct-recruitment Supervisor posts D02 to D05, candidates possessing full-time B.E./B.Tech./B.Sc. Engineering in the relevant discipline are also permitted. However, candidates applying for Junior Maintainer posts D06 to D09 must possess the prescribed ITI qualification; a higher qualification alone will not substitute for the required ITI.

Age Limit

NCRTC offers different pay scales for Supervisor-I and Junior Maintainer posts.
Supervisor-I Salary

- Initial Basic Pay: ₹37,000
Junior Maintainer Salary
- Pay Scale: ₹18,250 – ₹59,200
- Level: NS3
- Initial Basic Pay: ₹18,250
In addition to basic pay, selected candidates are eligible for Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), applicable perks, cafeteria-based allowances and other benefits according to NCRTC rules.

NCRTC Selection Process 2026
Selection will consist primarily of:
- Computer Based Test (CBT)
- Medical Fitness Test
The CBT will contain 100 questions carrying 100 marks and will have a duration of 90 minutes. Each correct answer carries one mark, and importantly, there is no negative marking for wrong answers.
The minimum qualifying percentage is 60% for UR/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates and 50% for SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen candidates. Final progression depends on merit, vacancies and the applicable shortlisting criteria. Candidates can take the CBT in either English or Hindi.
NCRTC Exam Centres
Candidates must select preferences for five examination cities while submitting their online application.
The listed CBT cities include Delhi-NCR, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kanpur, Agra, Vadodara, Indore, Thane, Pune, Guwahati, Raipur, Cuttack, Harohalli, Jaipur and Patiala.
Note for Kerala candidates: No examination centre in Kerala is included in the list published in Vacancy Notice 32/2026. Candidates from Kerala should therefore check the available cities carefully while submitting their preferences.
Medical Examination
Candidates shortlisted after the CBT have to satisfy the prescribed medical standards.
For Vacancy Notice 32/2026, Supervisor posts D01–D05 require the A-3 medical standard, while Junior Maintainer posts D06–D09 require the B-1 standard. The notification also specifies detailed eyesight requirements. Candidates should pay particular attention to these conditions because LASIK surgery is not permitted under the specified standards.
Surety Bond
Selected candidates are required to execute a surety bond.
