Post-Wise Classification, Pay Levels, and Age Limits

The vacancies cover a wide range of administrative, technical, and auditing profiles. Positions are tiered into diverse pay scales under the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) matrix:

1. Pay Level 8 (₹47,600 – ₹1,51,100) — Group B Gazetted (Non-Ministerial)

• Posts: Assistant Audit Officer (Central/State Cadres), Assistant Accounts Officer (State Cadre) under C&AG.
• Age Limit: 18–30 years.

2. Pay Level 7 (₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400) — Group B

• Posts: Assistant Section Officer (CSS, IB, Railways, MEA, AFHQ, MeitY), Inspector of Income Tax (CBDT), Inspector of Central Excise/Preventive Officer/Examiner (CBIC), Assistant Enforcement Officer (ED), Sub-Inspector (CBI), Inspector (Posts, Narcotics).
• Age Limit: 20–30 years for CSS, Railways, MEA, AFHQ, and CBI; 18–30 years for remaining departments.

3. Pay Level 6 (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400) — Group B

• Posts: Divisional Accountant (C&AG), Sub-Inspector (NIA), Sub-Inspector/Junior Intelligence Officer (NCB), Junior Statistical Officer (JSO), Statistical Investigator Grade-II, Executive Assistant (CBIC), Research Assistant (NHRC).
• Age Limit: 18–32 years for JSO; 18–30 years for all other posts.

4. Pay Level 5 (₹29,200 – ₹92,300) — Group C

• Posts: Auditor and Accountant positions across C&AG, CGDA, Controller General of Accounts, and other central ministries.
• Age Limit: 18–27 years.

5. Pay Level 4 (₹25,500 – ₹81,100) — Group C

• Posts: Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, Tax Assistant (CBDT/CBIC), Senior Secretariat Assistant/Upper Division Clerk, Senior Administrative Assistant (MES), Sub-Inspector (Central Bureau of Narcotics).
• Age Limit: 18–27 years.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfill specific nationality, age, and educational benchmarks by the crucial cut-off dates.

Nationality

Applicants must be citizens of India, or subjects of Nepal/Bhutan, or specified persons of neighboring countries as permitted under Government of India guidelines.

Educational Qualification (As of 01 August 2026)

• General Posts: A Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a recognized University or its equivalent.
• Junior Statistical Officer (JSO): Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with a minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics at the 12th-grade level, OR a Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics as one of the subjects at the degree level.
• Statistical Investigator Grade-II: Bachelor’s Degree with specialization in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, AI, or other related analytical fields.
• Appearing Candidates: Final year students are fully eligible to apply provided they clear their final degree exams on or before 01 August 2026.

Important Note on Gender Restrictions: While SSC CGL is broadly open to all genders, vacancies reported under the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are strictly reserved for male candidates only.

Scheme of the Examination

The selection process is purely merit-based and will be conducted across two distinct tiers of computer-based testing:

1. Tier-I Examination: A screening test consisting of multiple-choice questions covering General Intelligence & Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, General English, and General Awareness. Marks from Tier-I are used to qualify candidates for the next phase.
2. Tier-II Examination: A highly competitive main exam focusing on advanced mathematical abilities, language comprehension, reasoning, and computer proficiency. Specialized modules in Statistics or Finance apply to targeted profiles like JSO and Audit Officers.
